LIVE: 36th January rally starts after a strange shakedown

Update now!

4:08 p.m.: The fans are still waiting – at least according to the data available to us. Because according to the timekeeping, no pilot for whom the timekeeping is running has started yet.

4:05 p.m.: The SP1 is 9.14 kilometers long and has four action zones where the spectators are waiting for the pilots.

4:02 p.m.: Adrien Fourmaux tackles the course with number one. This is followed by number 99 – Gregoire Munster. This is followed by Simon Wagner, Hermann Neubauer, Martin Rossgatterer, Kris Rosenberger, Johannes Keferböck, Raimund Baumschlager, Julian Wagner, Michael Lengauer, Philipp Kreisel, Gerald Rigler, Ernst Haneder and Martin Fischerlehner. However, the drivers without timekeeping who will take part in the Christof Klausner Memorial will start. Starting tomorrow, the 15 drivers will follow the rest of the field on the track.

4:00 p.m.: Here we go! The January Rally 2023 has started!

3:55 p.m.: The live ticker has just been activated via the Jännerrallye app. We also welcome all readers who follow us via the app. Goodbye!

3:50 p.m.: In the past two years, the January rally had to be canceled due to the corona pandemic or the resulting planning uncertainty. In the previous year, it would have been postponed to February in the first instance, but then canceled. So today we see the first post-pandemic edition of the rally classic.

3:45 p.m.: After 2018 and 2019, will there also be an Upper Austrian winner at the January Rally this year? Or will national or international competition prevail? The most recent three competitions went to Salzburg’s Hermann Neubauer (2020), Mauthausen’s Julian Wagner (2019) and Unterweitersdorf’s Johannes Keferböck (2018).

3:40 p.m.: The way to the press center, which this year is a little further away from the paddock, made it clear that the rally moves a lot of people here. Especially in the center of Freistadt, there has already been a bit of a backlog in the direction of the exhibition hall.

3:30 p.m.: The first rally cars make their way from the rally center in Freistadt to Lasberg, where the first special stage starts in half an hour.

3:15 p.m.: There was already a lot going on at the shakedown this morning, it had to be stopped prematurely after an accident. Simon Wagner kept the best time up to that point. He was a touch ahead of Hermann Neubauer, Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux, Michael Lengauer, Jan Cerny, Martin Rossgatterer and Raimund Baumschlager. Markus Stockinger crashed into a power distributor, whereupon the line had to be switched off and the shakedown was subsequently aborted.

3 p.m.: Hello and welcome to the start of the 36th International January Rallye powered by Wimberger

The daily program on Thursday:

  • 9.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m.: Shakedown in Oberrauchenödt
