Eva Pinkelnig sets course for the crystal ball

Eva Pinkelnig continues her high in the Ski Jumping World Cup. The Vorarlberg native took two third places in Sapporo and impresses with incredible consistency. In the previous eleven individual competitions this season, the 34-year-old ended up on the podium ten times. “It’s completely crazy. I’ve been perfectly adjusted by my team. I’m really on a wave at the moment and just enjoying it,” said Pinkelnig, who is well on the way to following in Sara Marita Kramer’s footsteps and who win a crystal ball. In the overall World Cup, Pinkelnig’s lead over German Katharina Althaus is already 189 points. For Kramer, on the other hand, things are not going according to plan at all. The negative highlight was yesterday’s disqualification because of a suit that didn’t conform to the rules. The signorner Jacqueline Seifriedsberger (SC Waldzell) left Sapporo with ranks 23 and 21 in her luggage.

Austria’s Nordic combined athletes are also gaining momentum: Yesterday in Otepää they secured three World Cup podiums. After Lisa Hirner in the women’s race, who finished third, Saturday’s winner Johannes Lamparter and Franz-Josef Rehrl also finished second and third in the men’s race in the top three. Lamparter was beaten by German Julian Schmid by just 1.6 seconds, Rehrl was two tenths behind after a photo finish against vault winner Ryota Yamamoto (Jpn) on the last podium.

The overall leader Jarl Magnus Riiber, on the other hand, threatens to be out longer due to illness, the German Olympic champions Vinzenz Geiger and Johannes Rydzek have fever or corona. With Riiber, who has been dominant for years, it is uncertain when he will return to the World Cup. Recently he couldn’t train. “I’m here with big questions about my form,” said Riiber.
