Slovakia’s Vlhova won the night slalom in Flachau, Austria, 0.43 seconds ahead of second-placed American Shiffrin and celebrated her first win of the season.

Dürr from Munich finished in the top ten as a strong third, as did her teammates Jessica Hilzinger in eighth place and Emma Aicher in ninth place. Hilzinger also fulfilled the second part of the national World Cup standard. The fourth German starter, Andrea Filser, dropped out in the second round. “Three Germans in the top ten is brutal. I’m proud of the girls,” Dürr told Bayerischer Rundfunk. “We’ve really fought the last few years, kept going – and that’s what the reward is at the end.”

Shiffrin had won the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, last Sunday and, with her 82nd World Cup victory, drew level with her compatriot Lindsey Vonn, who retired in 2019, at the top of the all-time list of women. Another success in Flachau could have made her the sole record holder. The 27-year-old has a few more chances to do so this winter.

The record for most Alpine World Cup victories is also getting closer for Shiffrin, who has already won eight races this season. Only the former Swedish technology specialist Ingemar Stenmark is ahead of her with 86 successes.
