Schröcks Nadel is bitterly disappointed by Patrick Ortlieb, the association’s finance officer and power broker. “I once wanted him to be my successor, but apparently he can’t,” said Schröcksnadel in the “Kleine Zeitung” (Wednesday). He advises the Vorarlberg downhill Olympic champion to resign.
“I read that he has to help out in the hotel kitchen. How is someone who doesn’t have their own business under control supposed to run the association?” Schröcksnadel continues: “It would be best for the ÖSV if Patrick Ortlieb stayed in the kitchen and gave up all his functions in the association. Otherwise he would destroy him.”
Before Christmas, Ortlieb had spoken of a “mess”, which the current leadership around President Roswitha Stadlober had taken over from the predecessors. He also spoke of too many coaches or too large an ÖSV World Cup entourage – the tenor: The ÖSV is an association with inflated structures. Since then, runners and coaches alike have contradicted this.

Schröcks Nadel also sees the sporting crisis of the ÖSV technicians as self-made. “The new management has more or less replaced the entire management team. With Toni Giger, Patrick Riml, Edi Unterberger and Christian Mitter, four top talents have been let go. And there is no company that can cope with such a bloodletting without leaving a trace.” Schröcksnadel considers the change in service at Katharina Liensberger to be far more serious than the change of coach, “but you probably underestimated that,” the 81-year-old suspected.
As a “material guru” in the ÖSV development department, Unterberger had taken care of Liensberger a lot before he joined Marcel Hirscher’s Van Deer project with Giger. In addition, Van Deer engaged Liensberger’s former serviceman Raphael Hudler from Rossignol before the current season.
