The Vorarlberger, who suffered a complicated fracture in his right ankle almost a year ago in the slalom in Wengen, has to undergo another operation, as the ÖSV announced on Wednesday. “I knew it would be difficult, but it’s sobering now,” said Hirschbühl.
The winner of the 2021 parallel competition in Lech-Zürs has been struggling with persistent problems since his injury, which necessitate another ankle operation to “get away from the pain”.
Hirschbühl will then no longer be able to contest a World Cup race this season. “The way back will be a tough one, but I’m confident that I’ll be able to ski again next season,” said the 32-year-old.
