Niels Hintermann drove the fastest time in the second training session for the Lauberhorn descent in Wengen and in the first session over the entire distance. The ski racer from Switzerland needed 2:30.81 minutes for one of the classic routes in the Alpine World Cup on Wednesday.
The best Austrian was Marco Schwarz, the Carinthian ranked 17th, just ahead of his ÖSV colleagues Daniel Hemetsberger and Otmar Striedinger. Vincent Kriechmayr was 26.
On Tuesday there was a first scan on a shortened route after snowfall overnight. The third training session is scheduled for Thursday, although we will have to wait and see how the weather will develop. Schwarz wants to start at least in the Super-G on Friday, the classic Lauberhorn descent then rises on Saturday (each 12.30 p.m. / live ORF 1). A slalom concludes the program in Wengen on Sunday.
The Norwegian Adrian Smiseth Sejersted (+0.11 sec.) and the Italian Mattia Casse (+0.15) landed directly behind Hintermann. The leader in the downhill World Cup, Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, was fifth, 63 hundredths of a second behind. Beat Feuz, who contests the last races of his active career in Wengen and Kitzbühel, came in 21st.
