Denmark’s world champion coach Nikolaj Jacobsen is keeping his fingers crossed for the German team at the Handball World Championship. “It is of great importance for handball that the Germans have a successful national team. Germany is the most important handball nation in Europe and therefore important for the whole sport,” Jacobsen told the “Mannheimer Morgen”.
The 51-year-old led the Danes to the world title in 2019 and 2021. He describes the DHB selection as “a very exciting team with an experienced coach, which I think is a good mix”. However, the former Bundesliga player and coach believes “that it will be a while before this team can really go far in a tournament”.
Jacobsen, who led the Rhein-Neckar Löwen to the championship title in 2016 and 2017, has “not yet finished” with the Bundesliga. However, there is a limitation. “The Danish national coach and the club coach Nikolaj Jacobsen will not exist at the same time in a German Champions League participant,” he emphasized. “I don’t think I can do the job the way I want to with this double burden.”
