This is what tennis fans can expect in Linz

For more than three decades, the Upper Austria Ladies Linz has been an exclamation point for women’s sports in Austria. From February 6th to 12th, our federal state will once again be in the international spotlight at the 32nd edition of the WTA tournament. The world-class tennis event will be presented in a new design in 2023. A new chapter in the history of the tournament will open with the date of the event being brought forward to the beginning of the tennis year and the return to the Design Center.

Upper Austria’s Provincial Councilor for Economics and Sport, Markus Achleitner, underlines the importance of the tournament for the sporting state of Upper Austria and especially for women’s sport in the state. “No other women’s sports event attracts as much attention as Upper Austria Ladies Linz. The pictures from Upper Austria are sent to over 100 countries around the world – the tournament literally acts as a beacon for the sporting state and the location of Upper Austria.”

Will Maria Sakkari be the first Greek to win the Upper Austria Ladies Linz? No question, the current number six in the WTA ranking is the top favorite in the Linz women’s tennis classic. However, the 27-year-old knows very well that the way to the final will not be a walk in the park for her – because the competition is top-class, from the Olympic champions to the young stars.

An Olympic champion will also be a guest

With Camila Giorgi, the 2018 Linz winner also appears. The Italian “Tennis Princess”, the declared favorite of the Linz tennis audience, prevailed in the 2018 final against Ekaterina Alexandrova 6:3, 6:1. The 28-year-old number 20 in the world, meanwhile winner of three WTA tournaments (most recently in September 2022 in Seoul), is number two this year behind Sakkari.

Katerina Siniakova will radiate Olympic flair in the Design Center. The 26-year-old Czech is already a regular at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz. Her greatest successes were triumphs in the doubles competitions at the Australian Open (2022), the French Open (2018, 2021), Wimbledon (2018, 2022), the US Open (2022) and the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo with partner Barbora Krejcikova.

Julia Grabher, meanwhile number 82 in the world, receives a wild card.

Under the title “Advantage Ladies”, Upper Austria Ladies Linz, Sport Austria and ÖTV jointly invite the sports associations, sports organizations, media, sponsors and political representatives to a mega-exciting day dedicated to women’s sports on February 10th. The aim of the premiere event is to make women’s sport more visible, position it more clearly and strengthen it overall.

Tickets for the Upper Austria Ladies Linz are available on the tournament website www.ladieslinz.at, at all oeticket advance booking offices and (within Austria) via the ticket hotline 0900 94 96 096*. For the first time, special “after-work” tickets will be offered during the week.
