The German biathletes secured their third podium finish of the World Cup season in the third relay race at their home World Cup in Ruhpolding. David Zobel, Johannes Kühn, Benedikt Doll and Roman Rees only had to admit defeat to Olympic champion Norway and came in strong second.
The Norwegian dominator Johannes Thingnes Bö had a 20.1 second lead over the German anchor Rees at the finish. Third place went to France in front of 12,000 spectators in the Chiemgau Arena when it started to rain.
The men’s team of the German Ski Association had previously finished second in Kontiolahti and third in Hochfilzen this winter. Norway has already won the previous two competitions. Thanks to a strong team performance, the DSV quartet was able to gain self-confidence in front of their home crowd for the World Cup from February 8th to 19th in Oberhof, Thuringia. While Norway had one penalty and seven spares, the Germans were the best at the shooting range with just four spares.
