The Norwegian caught the Polish local favorite and half-time leader Dawid Kubacki (-1.1 pts) and also gave Stefan Kraft (-9.2) the disadvantage. The man from Salzburg led a strong ÖSV team: Jan Hörl (5th), Daniel Tschofenig (9th) and Clemens Aigner (10th) also finished in the top ten.
The starting position at the foot of the Tatras was extremely unfavorable. Because the wind was blowing from all sides, the test round was called off, and those responsible considered various scenarios – from just one round to cancellation. Eventually, the start was scheduled at 4:00 p.m., the conditions remained changeable and challenging. And while Piotr Zyla, who was fifth in the World Cup, promptly missed the second round, Hörl was second at half-time and Kraft was unimpressed as fifth. Above all hovered Kubacki, who got almost nine points ahead of Hörl.
The fact that that was not enough to win was not only due to the difficult conditions, but also to Granerud, who made up almost 16 points in the second round and caught the Pole with a top jump. The Norwegian’s 141 meters were only exceeded by Kraft. He took advantage of the moment and improved to third place with the day’s best distance of 145 meters.
Kraft remains fourth in the overall World Cup rankings, second-placed Granerud came only a little closer to leader Kubacki. The Pole still has a big lead (114 points).
