Chelsea have signed Ukrainian top talent Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk for a transfer fee of up to 100 million euros.

The Ukrainians will receive 70 million euros, and 30 million euros are also planned as possible bonus payments, as Shakhtar announced. The 22-year-old midfielder has signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract with the London Premier League club.

“It’s a big club in a fantastic league and it’s a very attractive project for me at this point in my career,” said Mudryk. Most recently, the Ukrainian international was linked to Chelsea’s city rivals Arsenal, and according to the media, a change seemed almost certain. The blues with the new German squad planner Christopher Vivell, who previously worked at RB Leipzig, are said to have offered a little more than the leaders of the English Premier League.

Shakhtar President Rinat Akhmetov said he had mixed feelings about this transfer record in Ukrainian football. In order to win European trophies, he must not send players like Mudryk to better leagues. But he is sure that he will win the respect, sympathy and love of all football connoisseurs.

Chelsea had also loaned Portugal striker Joao Felix (23) from Atlético Madrid after signing attacker David Fofana (20), central defender Benoit Badiashile (21) and midfielder Andrey Santos (18).
