FC Bayern is still looking for a goalkeeper. A candidate does not come back early.
Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel will stay at AS Monaco at least until the end of the season and will not return to Bayern Munich prematurely. “The transfer is off the table. Alexander will play the second half of the season in Monaco,” Nübel’s adviser Stefan Backs told Sky TV.
After the injury of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, the Bundesliga soccer club is urgently looking for a keeper for the rest of the season. The former U21 national goalkeeper Nübel, who is on loan to the French until the summer, was initially considered the preferred candidate for the Munich management. But Monaco doesn’t want to let their first-choice goalkeeper go.
Summer in focus
Now Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Yann Sommer should move even more into the focus of Bayern. According to the Swiss tabloid Blick, both clubs have resumed talks about a possible change. Sommer’s contract with Borussia ends after this season. Bayern would have to pay a transfer fee for the 34-year-old Swiss.
Whether Borussia will let their number 1 go in goal also depends on the search for a suitable successor. The current favorite is the Swiss goalkeeper Jonas Omlin (29) from HSC Montpellier. According to Sky information, the Rhinelanders have already received “positive signals” from France.
The league leaders from Munich start their remaining season on Friday with a tricky away game at RB Leipzig. Neuer’s previously very reliable deputy Sven Ulreich (34) should still be in goal there.
