It doesn’t look bad, although of course it’s not a “gmahte Wiesn” due to the lack of “imperial weather”, as Susanne Lentner from “GeoSphere Austria” (GSA) in Innsbruck explained to the APA. The meanwhile white chamois city will experience even smaller amounts of fresh snow in the coming days, but this should not stand in the way of the races.
The meteorologist expected a maximum of ten centimeters – especially at higher altitudes – this week after “Frau Holle” had already “shaken out” the predicted ten centimeters in the upper part of the Streif and five centimeters in the city on Wednesday night. According to Lentner, one has to reckon with “weak disturbances” in terms of cloud cover. Of course, it cannot be ruled out that “fog will remain somewhere along the route”, the expert alluded to Saturday in particular, but was still confident that it would be more likely to be found in the starting area than further down or along the downhill route.
In general, the coming days in Kitzbühel would bring changeable weather with “lots of clouds, snowfall at times and maybe a little sunshine in between”. However, large amounts of fresh snow are not to be expected. And one more thing is – as forecast – fixed: It stays cold. In the finish area on Friday, Saturday and Sunday it was around minus seven degrees in the morning and minus two degrees in the afternoon. At the start of the descent, at around 1,660 meters above sea level, the temperature will be minus twelve degrees.
