The 30 nominees for the Ballon d’Or have been official since Friday. Now Lionel Messi has revealed who his personal favorites are.
Lionel Messi interviewed France Football reveal which players are his personal favorites to win the Ballon d’Or 2021 – and also comment on his own chances of receiving the individual award again.
He’s always afraid of forgetting someone when asked, Messi said: “Obviously there are at least two players in my team that I can easily vote for: Neymar and Kylian [Mbappe]”said the 34-year-old.
Messi moved to French Ligue 1 prior to the current season and joined Paris Saint-Germain after failing to reach an agreement with FC Barcelona to extend his expiring contract.
Messi also counts a Bayern player as one of his closest rivals for the trophy: “Then Robert Lewandowski, who has just had a great year,” said Messi, who added: “There is also Karim Benzema who was outstanding.”

However, the players must be aware that titles are also included in the vote, said Messi. By winning the Copa America, the Argentine international could have gained an advantage over his rivals.
Even so, he doesn’t feel like a favorite at the Ballon d’Or. Having won a title with Argentina was already the highlight for him, said Messi: “If I win another Ballon d’Or, I would be very happy and very grateful, but I don’t want to think about it.”
