Bundesliga: Perfect: goalkeeper Sommer gets a Bayern contract until 2025

Yann Sommer’s transfer is perfect. The 34-year-old has a contract with FC Bayern until June 30, 2025. He could be in goal against Leipzig right away.

Goalkeeper Yann Sommer’s move to German record-breaking champions FC Bayern Munich is perfect. According to the announcement, Sommer will have a contract until June 30, 2025. For the change in winter, the Munich team will pay Borussia Mönchengladbach an estimated eight million euros, with bonus payments of up to 1.5 million euros depending on success.

“It’s a big club with power, we’ve often played against each other – I know about the enormous quality and appeal of this club,” said the Swiss national goalkeeper. “We have big tasks ahead of us. I’m really looking forward to starting with my new colleagues and to everything that comes.”

The 34-year-old played in the final training session and should be in goal away against Leipzig when the Bundesliga starts again after the long World Cup and winter break on Friday (8.30 p.m. / Sat.1 and DAZN).

Boss Kahn fully satisfied

After the change, CEO Oliver Kahn emphasized the importance of the new goalkeeper for the big goals of FC Bayern. “He brings everything to play his part in our success right away. We are sure that we can achieve our goals with Yann Sommer,” said the former world-class goalkeeper and current CEO of FC Bayern Munich according to the announcement.

“We had to react after Manuel’s absence. We have big goals for this season that we want to achieve and that’s why we hired Yann Sommer, who we consider to be one of the best goalkeepers in Europe,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. “Yann has been a goalkeeper for the Swiss national team for many years, has Champions League experience, he is a goalkeeper who plays and fits in very well with our team with his ambition and character.”

Neuer suffered a fracture of his right lower leg while skiing on December 9 and will no longer be able to play in the current season. His contract is dated until June 30, 2024. Only with Sven Ulreich (34) and Johannes Schenk (20) did Bayern not want to start the rest of the Bundesliga.
