Streif victim: ÖSV hope suffered cruciate ligament rupture

Streif victim: ÖSV hope suffered cruciate ligament rupture

The Austrian men’s downhill team is slowly running out of athletes: After the lightning career end of three-time Olympic champion Matthias Mayer and the injuries of Max Franz, Dominik Danklmaier and Maximilian Lahnsteiner, the pitiful Julian Schütter from Styria reported today for the rest of the season.

The bitter diagnosis after an MRI scan in Kitzbühel: tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injury in the left knee.

The notorious Streif has also claimed victims this year. At first it didn’t look so bad for the 24-year-old Styrian.

After his fall, he was still able to reach the finish area without outside help. “It’s a shame that my season is ending like this. I was always aware of the risk. Now I hope that the operation will go well and that I can then start rehab as soon as possible,” said Schütter, who will have the procedure carried out at the Hochrum private clinic on Sunday.

Eight sorties today, but no helicopter action

Already on Friday, Schütter had been unlucky. He had been on the road with good prospects, but the yellow flag stopped him after well over a minute of driving. The race was interrupted after the fall of the Norwegian Henrik Röa (fibula fracture). Schütter was allowed to compete again, but then had no chance due to the wear and tear of strength.

In today’s second descent, the helicopter didn’t have to take off, but there were still a number of incidents. Of the 56 ski aces who competed, 48 reached the finish line, eight were eliminated, including Scharnstein resident Thomas Dreßen, who got away with a fright.
