Daniel Tschofenig came seventh in a competition with difficult wind conditions on Sunday. Manuel Fettner was 13th. Saturday’s winner Stefan Kraft was only 18th before the ski flying home game next weekend at the Kulm. Victory went to local hero Ryoyo Kobayashi in a superior manner like on Friday.
The Japanese won his 29th success clearly ahead of the tour winner Halvor Egner Granerud from Norway. Third was the German Markus Eisenbichler. The Polish World Cup leader Dawid Kubacki did not get past eleventh place, his lead over Granerud in the overall standings dwindled to 48 points halfway through the World Cup season.
Kraft flies home happy
After 16 of 32 competitions, Kraft is still fourth in the World Cup rankings. The man from Salzburg, who sailed to his 27th victory the day before Granerud and Kobayashi, ended up in the beaten field for the first time in the third Sapporo competition. “It’s always annoying when things don’t go so well on the last day before a cool weekend. But in the end it was a great weekend again and I’m flying home happy,” said Kraft after finishing 5th, 1st and 18th in Japan. He showed a very good first jump (11th intermediate place) in difficult conditions, but unfortunately he made a small mistake in the final in persistently tricky wind.
Tschofenig has to keep waiting
Tschofenig, on the other hand, made it into the top ten again. Landed more than 15 points behind Eisenbichler, the 20-year-old has to wait for his first podium. However, the summary of the junior world champion was positive. “I was able to improve more and more over the weekend, it was at a good level,” said the Carinthian and did not describe the constantly changing wind as decisive for his jumps. He will get the next two chances in a few days on the Kulm ski jump in Styria. “We can be satisfied with the weekend and look forward to the Kulm with anticipation,” emphasized Tschofenig.
