Ski racer Linus Straßer is about to take the first podium of his career on the Ganslernhang in Kitzbühel.
The man from Munich was in third place in the slalom before the final round. “If I want to end up on the podium, there’s only going to be an attack anyway,” announced the 30-year-old before the second race (1.30 p.m. / ZDF and Eurosport). The gap to the leading local hero Manuel Feller was 0.50 seconds at half-time. Lucas Braathen (+0.31) was second.
In the past four goal runs of the season, Straßer has placed two thirds and one fourth. At the home World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen two and a half weeks ago, he was also on course for the podium, but dropped out in the second run. In Kitzbühel, where Straßer learned to ski as a child, he has not yet gotten along well in his career. Only twice – each time as 14th – did he score World Cup points there.
Besides Straßer, only Sebastian Holzmann from the German quintet made it into the second round of the top 30. David Ketterer, Fabian Himmelsbach and Adrian Meisen could not qualify.
