The German ski racer Linus Straßer missed his first podium place on the Kitzbühel Ganslernhang by a hair’s breadth, but confirmed his strong form two weeks before the start of the World Cup.
The 30-year-old from Munich dropped from third to fourth place and was only a hundredth of a second behind third-placed Norwegian Lucas Braathen. It was two hundredths to second Dave Ryding from Great Britain. The Swiss Daniel Yule won.
“Fourth place has never hurt me as much as it does today. I’ve never been so looking forward to the race here because I’m just in a damn good mood,” said Straßer on ZDF.
After many sobering results on the Ganslernhang, Straßer made at least some peace with the demanding slope, despite initial disappointment. As a child, the technology specialist had learned to ski at the same place, but more than two 14th places had never been possible in Kitzbühel until Sunday. “I’ve proved that it can also be done underneath,” said the Upper Bavarian.
Besides Straßer, only Sebastian Holzmann from the German quintet made it into the second round and finished 18th. David Ketterer, Fabian Himmelsbach and Adrian Meisen could not qualify.
