Austria’s national soccer goalkeeper Patrick Pentz is about to be transferred to Bayer Leverkusen. According to APA information, the 26-year-old from Salzburg has turned down a possible move to the Colorado Rapids in the US professional league MLS and is instead hiring as a substitute for the Finn Lukas Hradecky in Leverkusen. A final decision could still be made on Friday.
Pentz had switched from Vienna Austria to Stade Reims in the summer, but was not happy in France. After seven league appearances at the start of the season, Pentz has been on the bench since September. He should be more willing to do this in the German Bundesliga than with the medium-sized company in the French Ligue 1.
Leverkusen are apparently forced to act in the goalkeeper position because substitute keeper Andrei Lunjow is suffering from back problems. The club is said to have tried to get Pentz mainly because of his footballing qualities. The four-time ÖFB international, most recently in September against France (0-2) in an international match, would be a different type of goalkeeper than the established, tall regular goalie Hradecky.
Pentz’s contract in Reims would run until the summer of 2025. The specialist magazine “kicker” now also reported on a similar contract duration in Leverkusen. With the far-reaching move to Colorado, a transfer fee in the mid-six-digit range is said to have been estimated. However, this deal does not come about. The transfer window in Germany is open until Tuesday.
