Only the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud prevented the Salzburg native from winning at home in the first ski flying competition of the season. With jumps of 238 and 231 m, the tournament winner won 8.8 points ahead of Kraft in light snowfall, third was surprisingly Domen Prevc (SLO). Granerud is now the overall leader in the World Cup. For Kraft it was the 88th World Cup podium place, which put him level with the all-time third Gregor Schlierenzauer in the all-time ranking. “Yeah, it’s unbelievable that it worked out,” said the happy Kraft, who two days ago didn’t know if he could start at all. “The second jump was so cool, unbelievable with the background, when you sit on the beam, you have an adrenaline rush with the audience, you forget everything,” he told ORF. Regarding the 88th place on the podium: “I know the statistics, that’s cool. To have as many podiums as Gregor Schlierenzauer and to be third best, yes, that’s cool.”
With a 223 m jump in the second round, Jan Hörl improved from seventh place to fifth. Like Kraft, Manuel Fettner, who was not in top shape, finished 20th. Markus Müller (31st) just missed qualifying for the second round, local hero Francisco Mörth was disqualified because of his suit, as was Ulrich Wohlmentioned later. The trio of Michael Hayböck, Daniel Tschofenig and Clemens Aigner had to take a break due to flu symptoms and will no longer travel to the Kulm.
On Sunday, at the end of the first Ski Flying World Cup of the winter at the Kulm, there is a second competition (2.15 p.m./live ORF 1) on the program, shortly before (12.45 p.m.) the qualification will be held.
