At the end of the World Cup highlight of the season, the Tyrolean triumphed in front of the German Julian Schmid and the Norwegian Jens Luraas Oftebro. With double points, the world champion also took the lead in the overall World Cup. His ÖSV teammates Stefan Rettenegger and Franz Josef Rehrl finished fifth and seventh respectively.
After his victory the day before, the first home win by an Austrian in the World Cup since 2010, and a well-placed 108.5 m jump, Lamparter started the cross-country ski run as the leader. The strong runner Vinzenz Geiger was only 16 seconds behind, but was never able to endanger the local hero. Lamparter ran with a strong performance solo to his eighth World Cup victory, the fifth this season. On the home stretch he was already allowed to cheer with a small Austrian flag.
“It’s amazing what happened today. Winning the triple, in addition to the world title and Olympic victory, is the big goal that everyone has,” said Lamparter in a first ORF interview. “I’m a bit speechless at the moment. A day couldn’t be better. I just want to enjoy the moment.” The race was not easy again. In the end, the 21-year-old triumphed with a lead of 16.5 seconds over Schmid, who is now also his first pursuer in the overall World Cup with a deficit of 101 points.
Stefan Rettenegger finished 23.8 seconds behind the German Geiger in fifth place. His older brother Thomas Rettenegger dropped back to 30th place after breaking his stick. Rehrl lost 40.9 seconds in seventh place. Lukas Greiderer was 14th, Martin Fritz 20th and Fabio Obermeyr 25th.
The only triple victory for the ÖSV so far was Mario Seidl in 2019. Because of the World Championships in Seefeld in the same year, the event was not held in Tyrol, but in Chauf-Neuve in France. Before Seefeld, Lamparter had already won two competitions in Klingenthal this season. There is also another win of the season in Otepää.
World Cup record winner Jarl Magnus Riiber skipped the last Seefeld competition after being disqualified the day before. After health problems, the Norwegian wants to concentrate fully on the World Championships in Planica. Before this there are four World Cup competitions – two each in Oberstdorf and Schonach on the next two weekends.
