Congratulations, thanks and expressions of respect were not long in coming after football icon Tom Brady retired. However, the experts were quickly busy dealing with the future of the NFL record man – and professionally, a significant part of it is in the media business, since Brady has had a multi-million dollar contract as a television expert at Fox Sports since last year.
According to media reports, the 45-year-old will receive $375 million over the next ten years. If true, his annual pay would be higher than he was last when he was a player with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The deal was completed in May 2022, and the agreed date after his resignation, which was still unknown at the time, was the start of the term.
First appearance on the Super Bowl broadcast?
The broadcaster initially did not want to answer whether Brady will be part of Fox Sports’ Super Bowl broadcast on February 12. The TV makers and he himself will hardly miss the chance of at least a small appearance when the Kansas City Chiefs meet the Philadelphia Eagles in Glendale.
Brady’s meticulous game preparation and opponent analysis as well as his extensive knowledge of the sport are well documented. If he goes to work as a TV expert with the same attitude and meticulousness, he could rise to become one of the best in the field. At the same time, the new job could ease some of the initial pain of retiring, says Brady’s former teammate Rob Ninkovich.
“Michael Jordan could play three-on-three anywhere in a court and still throw a ball when he felt like basketball,” said the former New England Patriots defenseman who is an NFL analyst for ESPN. “Unfortunately, as a football player, you’re retiring and you’ll never wear a helmet and shoulder pads again.”
“Tom’s legacy is unmatched”
Also affected by the departure of the superstar quarterback are some NFL teams who have toyed with the idea of offering him a contract as games. First and foremost the Buccaneers, who Brady led to the Super Bowl victory two years ago in their own stadium. “Tom’s legacy is unmatched in the history of the sport,” said general manager Jason Licht, who now has to decide who will succeed Brady.
The San Francisco 49ers, for their part, must say goodbye to the theory of reuniting Brady with his childhood team for a year. The 49ers really have everything it takes for a strong team – except for a healthy and experienced quarterback. NFL surprise Brock Purdy may be out for a full year after tearing an elbow tendon in the last game, Trey Lance has shown a vulnerability and coach Kyle Shanahan has ruled out a de facto return for Jimmy Garoppolo.
