Yesterday, shortly after noon, the Steinbach Black Wings set out on the arduous journey to Asiago. Five and a half hours later the team bus dug its way through the snow to the border triangle (Austria/Italy/Slovenia, south of Villach). But it was to take until late at night for the Linzers to reach Asiago.

Today there is an activation unit on the ice, whereby the Italians don’t exactly accommodate their opponent with an ice time of only 45 minutes. After a meeting and lunch, the cracks rest at the hotel.

In terms of personnel, Linz have to do without Graham Knott, Rasmus Tirronen, Patrick Söllinger and Dennis Sticha. The latter two came yesterday in the Steinbach Steel Wings game against the Zeller Eisbären (1:5, Sticha brought the Steel Wings 1:0 in front, 17./sh).

Retro night is casting its shadow

On Sunday there will be a night of legends in the Linz-AG-Eisarena as part of the home game against Villacher SV. Numerous ex-players from Linz have announced themselves to celebrate the club’s 30th anniversary with the fans on the one hand and to look forward to the 20th anniversary of the first championship title on the other.

That’s why we decided to do an Icebreaker podcast episode to cover the story of the Black Wings. Just listen to episode 034 – the history lesson:

The Black Wings have already published some video interviews with legends and some video messages from former import players on YouTube. We’ve embedded them here below:
