The performance under the Spanish sun is not well received by his national coach: Erling Haaland is criticized by Stale Solbakken.
Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund has been publicly criticized after a short training video by the Norwegian national coach Stale Solbakken. The trigger was that Haaland in Marbella was wearing a jersey from Boca Juniors with the main sponsor Qatar Airways.
“Erling doesn’t represent us if he’s not with us. But if I had the chance to choose, he’d wear a different shirt,” said Solbakken before the World Cup qualifier against Montenegro on Monday.
Big discussion in Norway about World Cup boycott
The Norwegian team, including Haaland, had recently demonstrated increasingly against the World Cup host Qatar and its inadequate measures in the fight against human rights violations.
At the beginning of the year a big debate about the World Cup in the coming year started in Norway. Among other things, several top division clubs had asked the national team to boycott the World Cup if they qualify.
Norway is currently in second place in qualifying group G with 14 points, just behind the leaders Netherlands (16). Norway is followed by Turkey (12) and Montenegro (11).
