Boca presented Merentiel: “I’m going to give up my life for this club”

The attacker, 26 years old and a native of the city of Paysandú, has already trained under the leadership of DT Hugo Ibarra and he could even go to the substitutes’ bench this Sunday (7:15 p.m.) against Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero, for the second date of the tournament of the Professional League (LPF).

“I’m going to give up my life for this club, for this shirt. I know I’m coming to a very big institution”said the former Defensa y Justicia and Godoy Cruz de Mendoza player, among other clubs.

“My characteristics are the claw and not giving up any ball. I can play as a center forward or throw myself back to look for play”indicated the soccer player, who comes from Palmeiras in Brazil, where he did not find the desired continuity.

“I had no place in my team (Palmeiras) and different options began to be discussed. When my agent told me about Boca, I didn’t even doubt it,” confessed Merentiel, who appeared flanked by the club’s president, Jorge Amor Amealand by one of the members of the Football Council, Marcelo Delgado.

The forward signed an agreement for one season, free of charge, and with a purchase option for 3 million dollars.

“I spoke with (Hugo) Ibarra about the logical things of the game and which sector of the field I feel most comfortable in,” said Merentiel, who clarified that he had no problem playing alongside “another striker in the area” such as In the case of Darío Benedetto, when the scorer receives the qualification, after the 4 dates of suspension.

“I complement myself well with another ‘9’, I don’t have any problem. I’m prepared for whatever comes my way”maintained the attacker, who also listed the differences -at his discretion- between playing in local and Brazilian football.

“Brazilian teams are very powerful from an economic point of view. I think that a team like Boca can stand on an equal footing to fight for the Copa Libertadores,” said Merentiel when asked by Télam.

When asked about Vice President Juan Román Riquelme and the name with which one of his pets was baptized, Merentiel himself said: “I spoke with Román (Riquelme) by phone when we were in negotiations. Today I was able to talk with him on the property I liked him very much, we talked about football”, revealed the Uruguayan.

“I have two pet dogs and I named a 4-year-old Juan Román in honor of him,” he confessed.

Merentiel will train tomorrow and -almost certainly- will be part of coach Ibarra’s squad list, ahead of Sunday’s game against Central Córdoba in Santiago del Estero, starting at 7:15 p.m., at La Bombonera.

For that match, the xeneize team would go with only one change: the entry of the Colombian Frank Fabra for Agustín Sández in the left sector of the defense.

The rest of the team would be the same that comes from beating Atlético Tucumán 1-0. That is, the training will be with Sergio Romero; Luis Advíncula, Jorge Figal, Bruno Valdez and Fabra; Guillermo ‘Pol’ Fernández, Alan Varela and Juan Ramírez; Oscar Romero; Nicolas Orsini and Sebastian Villa.

In another order, the 19-year-old left-back Valentín Barco signed today -finally- a contract for three seasons and will remain until December 2025, linked to the entity xeneize.

The defender had had an offer to go to Spanish Getafe in this transfer market, but the proposal did not satisfy the reason why he decided to extend the link with the Ribera club.
