Cheered on by the loud home audience, ski jumper Katharina Althaus celebrated her next individual victory in Willingen.
The 26-year-old Allgäu jumped 133 and 149.5 meters and thus confirmed her excellent form. Especially the second attempt made Althaus cheer in front of more than 20,000 spectators. Slovenian Ema Klinec and Japanese Sara Takanashi completed the podium.
“It was just awesome, I’m really happy. I noticed that the second one is going really well and goes really, really far. Everything was pretty much perfect on the second jump,” commented Althaus, who was also about to win the overall World Cup this winter fights
Althaus was able to win one of the two competitions in the Black Forest at the last home World Cup in Hinterzarten. All in all, the success in front of a huge backdrop was the fifth win of the season for the woman from Oberstdorf, who then had tears in her eyes. “I wouldn’t have thought it would be 149 meters either. That was a really strong jump,” said head coach Maximilian Mechler on ARD. “The fact that there are so many spectators is extreme.”
This is how mixed world champion Anna Rupprecht saw it. “You don’t jump here for yourself, but for the spectators, to make a great party out of it,” said Rupprecht, who finished 20th. Selina Freitag also impressed with seventh place and jumps of 132.5 and 126.5 meters. On Sunday, the women will again have an individual competition (11.45 a.m.) in Willingen.
