The German ski jumpers missed the podium places at the home World Cup in Willingen despite a strong team performance.
Karl Geiger was the best German on the huge Mühlenkopfschanze in fifth place, but had to admit defeat to the world leaders around the day’s winner Halvor Egner Granerud from Norway. Granerud jumped 149.5 and 138 meters. With his victory he defended the yellow jersey of the overall leader in the World Cup and prevailed against the two strong competitors Anze Lanisek from Slovenia and Dawid Kubacki from Poland.
In front of 23,500 spectators, Geiger was not the only one who did well with national coach Stefan Horngacher’s team. Philipp Raimund was ninth, Andreas Wellinger was tenth. Compared to the meager Four Hills Tournament, the German team is gaining momentum, although the absolute elite is still a long way off. Markus Eisenbichler, who had won the qualification with 141.5 meters, finished 17th in the competition. Another individual is on the program on Sunday (4 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport).
