The public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt is continuing the investigation into Peter Fischer. The President of Eintracht Frankfurt firmly rejects the accusation of illegal drug possession.
The public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt is not currently considering dropping the preliminary investigation against Eintracht Frankfurt President Peter Fischer on suspicion of illegal drug possession. Fischer has rejected the allegations as unfounded.
However, the authority sees the “measure as justified”, said Nadja Niesen, chief public prosecutor and press spokeswoman for the Frankfurt public prosecutor’s office.
Fischer’s lawyers had announced that they would apply on behalf of their client for the preliminary investigation to be discontinued. In addition, official liability claims are to be examined. It is a “character assassination campaign” and the presumption of innocence still applies to Fischer.
After inspecting the investigation file, the defense of the 66-year-old defends the legal opinion “that the issuing and execution of the search warrant in our client’s private premises were unlawful,” the statement said.
Public prosecutor sees “fat initial suspicion”
The public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt takes a different position. “There was a bold initial suspicion that justified the house search,” said Niesen. Traces of a suspicious substance were found during the raid. This is a “strong indication”, stressed Niesen. According to Fischer’s lawyers, however, these cannot be clearly assigned to the Eintracht President.
Since August 2000, Fischer has been president of the association with more than 100,000 members in 19 departments. In the more than 22 years he has developed the traditional Hessian club with his unconventional nature and closeness to the fans into one of the largest Bundesliga clubs in Germany. He was only confirmed in office for another four years on September 26, 2022.
