The Austrian national ice hockey team got off to a successful start in the four-nation tournament in Copenhagen: Coach Roger Bader’s team beat Norway 2-1 after a penalty shoot-out and will now meet host Denmark, who defeated France 3-0, on Saturday in the match for tournament victory.
Against Norway, captain Thomas Raffl (12th) scored the goal for the lead, which lasted until the middle of the second period. After the equalizer, no further goals were scored in regular time or overtime. In the penalty shoot-out, the Austrians got the upper hand thanks to goals from Marco Kasper and Manuel Ganahl. “It was a tough fight from both sides until the end, a tight game. We’re lucky that we were the lucky ones in the end”said Ganahl.
