HINZENBACH. Yesterday in Hinzenbach, Eva Pinkelnig impressively found her way back to winning ways. The Vorarlberg native celebrated her sixth win of the season ahead of the Slovenians Ema Klinec and Nika Prevc. The 34-year-old was recently noticeably out of step. “It didn’t go so well for me. The hype just got too much,” said Pinkelnig, about her difficult phase. Instead of training, she had gone skiing for the past few days. It helped.
Chiara Kreuzer, who was third at half-time, fell back to sixth place. While Jacqueline Seifriedsberger was 13th, Julia Mühlbacher from Schalchen achieved her best World Cup result in 19th.
“Thank the Lord”
Yesterday’s sports festival was almost overshadowed by a tragedy: before the competition, the track tiller, weighing around 500 kilos, fell down the hill – past helpers who were preparing the front end. “Thank God that nothing happened to anyone,” said organization chief Bernhard Zauner, who spoke of a chain of unfortunate circumstances. The track tiller, which is used to prepare the inrun track, was too high up in the still rather flat section of track. The tiller would not move while the safety line was already slack. “When the track tiller started to roll, the force tore the cable from its anchorage,” says Zauner. “Even if it looked wild, it will probably be fixable.”
The incident also has no effect on the second World Cup competition that follows this Saturday (9 a.m.). Zauner: “The track would only have to be milled again if it snowed.”
