The Tyroleans celebrated a deserved 2-1 (0-0) away win at Wolfsberger AC in the 17th round of the Bundesliga and moved up to third place in the table. Tim Prica (62′) and Thomas Sabitzer (70′) scored the goals in a game with few chances in favor of WSG for a long time, WAC’s goal by Thai Baribo came too late (87′).

The WSG won the third away game in a row, remained unbeaten in the sixth league game in a row and already has 27 points under their belt. The WAC (17 points) meanwhile continued the miserable record in their own stadium, only one of nine home games this season could be successfully contested. The gap to sixth in the table could increase to seven points tomorrow.

In the final training, there was bad news for the WAC. Key player Dominik Baumgartner injured his meniscus and has already had an operation in Innsbruck. The defensive chief was replaced by Jonathan Scherzer, and he was joined in the three-man defense by new signing Tim Oermann and Simon Piesinger. As expected, the storm duo was made up of Maurice Malone and Baribo. WSG coach Thomas Silberberger had the entire squad available for the first competitive game of the calendar year. After the departure of top scorer Nik Prelec, Prica and Sabitzer started in attack.

In a wintry three degrees, the hosts recorded more game shares at the beginning, the guests from Tyrol tried to play quickly and directly forward after winning the ball. Both teams remained offensive but extremely harmless. In the middle of the first half, coach Robin Dutt was forced to make a change. Central defender Scherzer, who was threatened by yellow-red, was replaced by Michael Novak (21st).

With the continuation of a game that was largely at odds and marked by many fouls and interruptions, the WSG increased their offensive efforts a little. A Sabitzer header (24′) missed the goal from a corner, as did Lukas Sulzbacher’s shot from long range (29′). Basically, there were no big chances in the first half, the WSG acted more in a duel and was a bit better. The only notable action by WAC came from Konstantin Kerschbaumer shortly before half-time when he flicked the ball past the goal on the left (45+1.).

Section two started as uneventfully as the first, but this should change after an hour. A precise cross from Sandi Ogrinec took over directly from Prica, his shot found its way into the goal after a gross mistake by WAC keeper Hendrik Bonmann (62nd). It was the sixth goal of the season for the Swede. Just a few minutes later, the hitherto inconspicuous Sabitzer brought about the preliminary decision. After a quick turn, the attacker sank the ball in the bottom right corner (70′).

Baribo’s goal came too late in the end. After a strong combination, the Israeli scored his eighth goal of the season (87th) on his own in front of WSG goalkeeper Ferdinand Oswald.
