Report: Newcastle United want Wesley Fofana from Leicester City as their first starting transfer after the Saudi takeover

Newcastle’s defense had to swallow 16 goals this season. Wesley Fofana is apparently supposed to provide stability.

After being taken over by a consortium led by the Saudi Arabian state fund, Newcastle United is planning a high-profile transfer for the vulnerable defensive. RMC Sport reports that center-back Wesley Fofana will be directed to St. James Park by Premier League rivals Leicester City in January.

Accordingly, Newcastle’s new top club would have already informed Fofana’s adviser of interest in signing in the winter. The Foxes were also informed that an official offer for the 20-year-old could soon be received.

Newcastle United? Fofana dreams of Real Madrid

A transfer of Fofana is unlikely to be a cheap proposition. Leicester took the jewel in 2020 for 35 million euros from AS Saint-Etienne. The contract of the French U21 international in Leicester runs until 2025.

Speculations about a transfer to a well-known club are nothing new for Fofana. Among other things, he was traded as a newcomer at Real Madrid after a very strong first season in England.

He recently said this on “Oh my Goal” YouTube: “It’s an honor, Real Madrid are my dream club. They are the biggest club in the world and it’s my dream to play there.”

Currently, however, Fofana has to take a compulsory break. Even before the start of the season, he suffered a broken fibula when he was rudely touched by Fer Nino in the friendly against Villarreal. It will be canceled until at least December.
