After beating Austria Klagenfurt 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the Soccer Cup a week ago, Linz beat SCR Altach in the Bundesliga on Sunday with the same result, consolidating third place. Keito Nakamura scored the decisive goal in the tenth minute, his team survived almost an entire half without conceding after Branko Jovicic was sent off.
The Altacher started with five winter newcomers and also recorded the first dangerous action. Husein Balic, who was loaned out by LASK, ran away, but his shot was too weak and did not pose a problem for goalie Alexander Schlager (3rd).
The LASK successfully completed its first successful attack. The ball came to Nakamura via Sascha Horvath and Marin Ljubicic, who failed in the first attempt by Altach keeper Andreas Jungdal. The Japanese used the margin to score his ninth league goal of the season (10th). This was followed by a relatively narrow miss by Thomas Goiginger (13th) and many idle runs. With the exception of Atdhe Nuhiu’s header wide of the far corner (37′), there was practically nothing going on in the first half in front of 4,258 spectators.
But the second 45 minutes started with excitement. Jovicic saw yellow-red for his second tactical foul (47th), whereupon LASK withdrew far and left the initiative to Altach. The home side knew very little about the increased ball possession. The hosts were unable to create a really compelling chance, the most dangerous of which was an attempt by Amir Abdijanovic over the crossbar (72′) and a Balic shot saved by Schlager (87′).
At the other end, Jungdal was there when substitute Moses Usor scored (93′). In the end, LASK achieved success without any major problems over time and remained undefeated in the twelfth away match against Altach in a row. Altach, on the other hand, only got one point from the last four rounds and are still in the middle of a relegation battle.
