The German lugers are still in top form. Two weeks after the World Championships in Oberhof, the team celebrated successes in all classic individual races and in three of the four sprint races at the home World Cup in Winterberg over the weekend.

Julia Taubitz won the women’s competition and thus extended her lead in the overall World Cup. “Really cool!” Taubitz said happily on ZDF. The 26-year-old won in Sauerland ahead of her teammate Anna Berreiter and Emily Sweeney from the USA. Dajana Eitberger was fourth, Merle Fräbel was sixth.

Vice World Champion Max Langenhan celebrated his third win in a row in the men’s singles. Three-time Olympic champion Felix Loch finished third behind Austrian world champion Jonas Müller. After nine of twelve races, the 33-year-old Loch still has a chance of winning the overall World Cup and is in second place with 566 points behind Italian Dominik Fischnaller (665). “Dominik is already a few points ahead. It’s going to be really tough that I can still get him,” Loch said on ZDF.

More medals in doubles and sprint

The world champions Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal prevailed in the doubles competitions in Winterberg, they achieved their first success in the World Cup. In the men’s race, six-time Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt won ahead of world champions Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken, who criticized the track conditions in Winterberg. “I looked at the track before the race. And it just looked miserable in the curves,” said Eggert. The train was “super rough”. Women’s winner Taubitz had a different opinion and praised the organizers. “The conditions are great for the weather.”

The German lugers also showed strong performances in the non-Olympic sprint races. Taubitz won the women’s ahead of Kendija Aparjode from Latvia and Merle Fräbel. Langenhan won the men’s ahead of the Austrian Müller and Loch. In the doubles, Wendl/Arlt prevailed ahead of Eggert/Benecken. Only in the women’s doubles sprint was there no German victory. The Degenhardt/Rosenthal duo took eighth place when the Latvians Anda Upite and Sanija Ozolina won.
