“It was a work win because we made it difficult for ourselves,” said LASK trainer Dietmar Kühbauer after the 1-0 win in Altach at the spring kick-off. Because in the 47th minute Branko Jovicic saw yellow/red.
Kühbauer did not blame the Serbian midfielder. “Nobody does that on purpose.” On the other hand, he praised the remaining ten for the performance afterwards: “The lads knew exactly what to do – namely that you defend well. They did that really well.”
Until the final whistle, Altach had practically no chance to equalize the LASK lead by Keito Nakamura (10th). Marin Ljubicic had made the perfect assist, and the Japanese scored his ninth goal of the season on the second try: At first he was denied by goalkeeper Andreas Jungdal, and Nakamura converted the rebound.
“That speaks for the further development of the team”
In contrast to many previous games, LASK did not rest on the 1-0, the athletes only inevitably gave up the initiative after Jovicic was excluded. Altach couldn’t do anything with the additional ball possession. “It’s very important for self-confidence when you’re outnumbered for almost 50 minutes and don’t allow anything,” said Kühbauer with satisfaction. Substitute Moses Usor even had the best chance of scoring for LASK (93rd). Kühbauer: “That was a mature performance, that speaks for the further development of the team.”
Only one player who is under contract with LASK made Kühbauer’s pulse soar: Husein Balic was in Altach’s starting eleven just six days after his loan move and was the most conspicuous player in Vorarlberg with two degrees (4th, 87th). . Shots were easily tamed by LASK goalkeeper Alexander Schlager.
One step closer to the goal
“There were three important points because we came one step closer to our goal of making it into the championship group,” said Kühbauer. The lead in seventh place grew to nine points with five rounds remaining in the regular season, because Austria Wien ousted the Carinthians from the top six with a 3-1 win over Klagenfurt.
LASK wants to take the next step away from SV Guntamatic Ried in the derby on Saturday – without the suspended Jovicic.
