The third-placed man from Salzburg was more than twelve points behind the superior Norwegian on the large hill, the German Saturday winner Wellinger was only 0.8 points ahead of him. With Daniel Tschofenig (8th), Michael Hayböck (10th) and Clemens Aigner (12th), who placed third the day before, three other ÖSV athletes made it into the top field.
Next weekend, as the last stop before the Planica World Championships, there will be jumping on a normal hill in Rasnov, Romania. In the US state of New York, Kraft was only 16th in the first competition, but in the new super team competition that followed, he celebrated second place with Tschofenig. And in the final competition, too, he showed his sweet side again in tricky wind conditions.
“I was able to take the momentum from the super team. It wasn’t easy with the conditions. I’m glad I managed it that way. Everything worked very well,” emphasized Kraft in an ORF interview after his ninth podium finish of the season . The recent achievements are beneficial for self-confidence in view of the World Cup.
Tschofenig also reported positively. “It was a dream weekend with two podium finishes. It couldn’t have gone much better,” said the Carinthian, who finished on the podium for the first time the day before. A permanent guest on the podium is Granerud, who further extended his overall lead with his tenth win of the season. Slovenian Anze Lanisek, who was third in the World Cup rankings ahead of Kraft, was unable to compete at all. The Slovenian had to fit the qualification due to material problems in his suit.
