“I’m gay and I don’t want to hide anymore.”

Jakub Jankto comes out on Monday (see video statement below). Outgoings are no longer a rarity in other areas, but homosexuality is still a taboo subject in male-dominated football.

With Jankto, who is engaged at Sparta Prague, an active first division professional is now flying the flag in Europe for the first time. He is also a Czech national team player (45 international matches).

“Like everyone else, I want to lead my life in freedom, without fear, without violence, without prejudice, but with love,” said the 27-year-old, who has already played in Italy (Undinese, Sampdoria) and Spain (Getafe).
