In the parallel race of the World Ski Championships in Meribel/Courchevel, Dominik Raschner was only defeated in the final by German Alexander Schmid and won silver. “It’s a mega experience to be able to go home with a medal,” says the 28-year-old Tyrolean, who was only taken along for the parallel races to the World Championships.
Schmid’s gold is the first German World Championship title since 1989, when Hansjörg Tauscher became world champion in the downhill.
For Austria’s team, which increases its medal tally at this World Championships to six (0/3/3), Adrian Pertl is almost another runner on the podium. The Carinthian, who was defeated by Raschner in the all-Austrian semi-final, had to admit defeat to the Norwegian Timon Haugan in the bronze match and finished fourth.
In the women’s category, only Franziska Gritsch qualified. In the main competition, she had been the last stop in the quarterfinals against Marie Lamure from France. The title went to the Norwegian Maria Therese Tviberg, who prevailed over the Swiss Wendy Holdener and her Norwegian compatriot Thea Louise Stjernesund.
Defending champion Katharina Liensberger did not qualify.
