After comeback victory: Sturm wants to “fire up” German boxing again

Former boxing world champion Felix Sturm celebrates a difficult victory on his comeback. The now 44-year-old still has ambitious goals.

Former world boxing champion Felix Sturm would like to continue his career for a while after his successful comeback.

There are various options that would appeal to him, said the 44-year-old in Stuttgart after his victory on points over the Turks Sükrü Altay, who lives in the Allgäu. A dream that the veteran would like to fulfill is a fight against the American Roy Jones junior, ten years his senior, who was once considered the world’s best professional.

“For me personally, he is the most talented and gifted boxer who has ever lived on our planet. To be able to get in the ring against someone like that would be a great thing,” said Sturm about the ex-champion. “Maybe you can use it to give German boxing a new boost.” You have to be open to new paths. Battles of the “old guard”, as he called it, are one possibility.

Possibly becoming world champion a sixth time would also be “a nice option,” said Sturm, who has now moved up to light heavyweight and sees his future there.

Sturm had celebrated his 43rd win in the 53rd professional fight against Altay. In the days before, the native of Leverkusen had a flu infection, reported his coach Maurice Weber afterwards.
