Greg Foster, three-time world champion athlete, has died

A native of Chicago, Foster then garnered a total of 10 national titles both indoors and outdoors between 1981 and 1991..

His death occurred as a result of a disease he had been fighting for years: amyloidosis, which is characterized by the accumulation of proteins in vital organs.

For this reason, the 110-meter hurdles world champion in 1983, 1987 and 1991 and Silver medalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, had undergone a heart transplant in 2020.

“It’s sad that Greg left us so young”he claimed Jonathan “Jon” Ridgeondirector of the international athletics federation (World Athletics), when the news broke.

“He epitomized what one expects from athletics heroes: a fierce rival on the track and a generous and warm man off the track,” he added.

Foster, who dominated his discipline for five seasons and for 18 years (1977-94) managed to be among the best 12 in his specialty, retired from the activity in 1996.
