There is no room for Germany in the record calendar of Formula 1 with 23 races in just eight months. The former host country with once full grandstands and Michael Schumacher’s successful drives will not play a role in the planning of the motorsport premier class in the coming year. Instead, it comes to the long-announced debut of Florida’s glittering metropolis Miami and the return to Australia and Canada – but not to China; Shanghai is out too.
This is evident from the calendar that Formula 1 published on Friday. Previously, the plant, which will again present the PS circus traveling around the world with some logistical challenges and cause the teams and their employees a lot of work and little sleep, had been approved by the World Council of the International Automobile Association Fia.
Formula 1 avoids the World Cup
The start is on March 20th in Bahrain, the finale will take place on November 20th in Abu Dhabi. The season lasts 245 days, it ends so early because the World Cup in Qatar begins that same month.
“We’re excited to announce the 2022 calendar as we prepare for a new era in the sport with all-new rules designed to make racing even tighter,” said Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. In the coming year, a new set of regulations will come into effect that will significantly change the aerodynamics of the cars: overtaking should be made easier and the races as a whole more thrilling.
Looking forward to more fans – the pandemic is still present
“We are looking forward to welcoming more fans next year,” said Domenicali after the last season in particular, but also the current season, suffered in terms of fans on the routes due to the corona pandemic.
The Italian boss of the premier class, who was once team boss at Ferrari, also emphasized with a view to the corona virus and its effects: “The pandemic is still present, and we will therefore continue to be vigilant and safe – to protect our entire staff and the Churches we visit. “
Even if there have been a few positive cases in Formula 1, including drivers, the entourage has come through the pandemic surprisingly well despite the many trips.
Tough race sequence: Australia – Europe – Miami – Europe
And it should stay that way in 2022. After the start in Bahrain, the next week in nearby Saudi Arabia. What comes next reads … interesting: Melbourne on April 10th, then back from Australia to Europe, on April 24th there will be driving in Imola, before the engines are started two weeks later in Miami. Another two weeks later, Formula 1 wants to be back in Europe in Barcelona.
After a long period of racing on the old continent, the journey continues overseas. And how: From Sochi in Russia on September 25, via Singapore on October 2 and Suzuka in Japan on October 9, there is one of the so-called triple headers feared by everyone: three races on three consecutive weekends. Then the USA, Mexico, Brazil follow and it goes to the finish line in Abu Dhabi.
