What the OÖN reported weeks ago is now also officially in the bag: Striker Fally Mayulu is moving from second division club FC Blau-Weiss Linz to Bundesliga club Rapid Wien in the summer. “We have agreed to work with the young and highly talented striker Fally Mayulu from the preparation for the 2023/24 season. He has a contract with us for four seasons, i.e. until the summer of 2027,” confirms Rapid Managing Director Markuskatzer at today’s press conference before the Bundesliga hit game against Salzburg on Sunday.

The attacker’s contract in Linz expires in the summer. Katzener: “Mayulu is an exciting player with great potential. He is technically excellently trained, good at finishing shots and extremely agile, and also good for headed goals at any time due to his size alone. We reached an agreement a few days ago, but out of respect for my colleague Tino Wawra, I only wanted to give an official confirmation after a personal conversation with him.”

20-year-old Fally Mayulu was educated in his native France and joined VfL Wolfsburg’s second team in the 2020/21 season from the RC Lens youth team. The 193 cm tall attacker has been playing in Austria since February 2022 and has played 33 competitive games for the Linz promotion aspirant since then, scoring eleven goals and directly preparing a further seven. The future Rapid player has this to say about his forthcoming move: “I am very happy that I can play for the biggest football club in Austria from the summer. At the moment, however, I would like to focus fully on my task in Linz, we still have a big goal in mind for the coming months.”

“Ideally, he shoots us into the Bundesliga”

Tino Wawra, the sporting director of the Stahlstadt-Klub, says about the upcoming change of his attacker: “Of course we congratulate SK Rapid and Fally Mayulu on this transfer. On the one hand, it’s a bit bitter for us that such a player is leaving on a free transfer. On the other hand, it’s another recognition of our good work in recent years that one of our players has repeatedly switched to a top club in Austria. We give Fally 100% the step and also think that he has the potential to help Rapid and develop into a top player there. Ideally, Fally will shoot us into the Bundesliga in the spring and then take his next logical step.”
