Eduardo Domínguez will be the new coach of Estudiantes and will debut with Huracán

Balbo lost all consensus in the Estudiantes leadership after losing on Friday in Santa Fe against Unión (2-0) and adding the third defeat in the first six dates of the local tournament.

That result was exposed after the decision to remove from the starting team an emblem like the goalkeeper Mariano Andújar, champion of the Copa Libertadores 2009.

Domínguez, 44, was the primary option of the leadership, who did not negotiate with any other coach at this time. Some were offered and other names that could be analyzed were impossible, such as Ricardo Gareca and Gustavo Alfaro.

Balbo’s successor began his career in Huracán hours after leaving his role as a soccer player in 2015 and led him to play in the Copa Sudamericana final after eliminating River.

Then he had two cycles in Colón. In the first he achieved the best mark in the history of the “Sabaleros” of seven consecutive wins and in the second stage he emerged champion of the 2021 Professional League Cup, the institution’s first and only title.

In 2019 he had a fleeting stint at Nacional de Montevideo, for just 8 games, where he won the Uruguayan Super Cup by beating Peñarol on penalties.

His last job was at Independiente in a difficult period for “Red”, where he won 10 games, drew 9 and lost 10. In total in his career as a coach he led 215 games, of which he won 70, drew 59 and lost 50, with an effectiveness of 50.85 percent.

In principle, Domínguez will maintain his work group: Leandro Díaz and Carlos Verna as field assistants and Pablo Santella as physical trainer.
