Fifth Super-G victory in one season: Swiss ski star Marco Odermatt celebrates a record in Aspen. He already has his sights set on the next record.
Ski high-flyer Marco Odermatt made history with his triumph in Aspen. The Swiss Olympic champion and two-time world champion is the first alpine athlete to win five Super-G’s in one season.
“I didn’t know that until this morning. Records are very nice, they’re something that stays. At least for a while,” said the 25-year-old to the Swiss broadcaster SRF. He drove to the limit in the Rocky Mountains.
With his victory, the Swiss not only secured the small crystal ball in the discipline classification ahead of time, Odermatt is also getting closer and closer to a legendary record. The all-rounder is still 374 points short of reaching the 2000-point mark set by Hermann Maier more than 20 years ago in a World Cup season. Odermatt will contest at least four more races this winter. If he wins each of them, he breaks the record.
