The Bundesliga soccer club confirmed this to the APA. The German announced the news at the beginning of the AGM and received applause from the members afterwards. According to Hensel, he will remain in office until the summer, when his successor will be elected. The 64-year-old took over the presidential job at the “Violets” in November 2018.
The financially ailing club had high hopes for the former Rewe boss, but Hensel was unable to land the really big sponsors. This is one of the reasons why he recently came under more and more pressure within the club. With his decision to leave soon, Hensel preempted an official request from Austria members to resign.
