The UVC McDonald’s Ried men gave Amstetten little chance in the second quarter-final game (best of 3) and won 3-1 away on Saturday.
“It’s a bitter pill for us,” said Michael Henscke, sports director of the Mostviertler, who had sat down on the coaching bench to provide support – in vain. In the semi-final series (Best of 5), Ried meets title favorite Hypo Tirol, who only suffered a single defeat of the season – but against Ried of all places.
Women’s title defender Oberbank Steelvolleys Linz-Steg also won the away game against Bisamberg/Hollabrunn 3-0. Coach Facundo Morando took the opportunity to send some of the regulars into the weekend early. The semi-final series (Best of 3) starts next Sunday at home against Tirol.
“Innsbruck has already challenged us three times this season,” said Morando, whose team was able to win all three duels.
