On December 5, 2014 she made her World Cup debut on the small hill at Lillehammer at the age of 26 in the women’s ski jumping competition. On Monday, Eva Pinkelnig again had a special sense of achievement in the Norwegian town. The Vorarlberg native, six-time winner of the season, was enough to place eleventh in the Raw Air Series competition there to be the winner of the overall World Cup ahead of time. With two remaining competitions, she can no longer be caught by her German rival Katharina Althaus, who finished fifth yesterday.
“I’m overwhelmed. My first World Cup on the small hill was here, and now I’m standing there as the overall World Cup winner. I have to digest everything first, but it feels incredibly good,” said Pinkelnig happily.
After Daniela Iraschko-Stolz 2014/15 and Sara Marita Kramer in the previous season, Austria’s women are again a winner of the big ball. “It shows that we’re working well,” said head coach Harald Rodlauer.
The large hill competition, which was affected by heavy snowfall, went to the Norwegian Silje Opseth, who prevailed by just 0.6 points ahead of Selina Freitag (D) and 6.5 ahead of Ema Klinec (Slo). Oslo winner Chiara Kreuzer was ninth as the best Austrian. Innviertler Julia Mühlbacher finished 17th, while Jacqueline Seifriedsberger (33rd) could not qualify for the second round.
Another competition will follow on Wednesday at the same place. On Tuesday (4.10 p.m., live ORF 1) it is the men’s turn.
