The NBA will use the “hawk eye” during the next season

This computer system will help referees in the most important basketball league in the world to make better decisions.

The nba announced today that it will use technology known as “Hawk Eye” which is used in tennis from the 2023-2024 season, with the aim of helping referees make better decisions.

“He Hawk Eyethe technological tool used in sports such as tennis or soccer to determine the exact position of the ball at a specific moment, will reach the nba starting season 2023-2024 and will partially alleviate the work of the referees after a season marked by a long series of notable errors”, publishes the Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The new technology will facilitate the “decision making” in objective cases such as the position of the players’ feet on three-point shots or to determine if a player touched the ball while on or off the court.

The nba recently signed a multi-year agreement with Sony’s Hawk-Eye Innovations for a technology that will allow the league to “collect specialized data, control the movement of each player and the ball at all times and facilitate various decisions of the referees,” added Mundo Deportivo.

In addition, it is pointed out that “it is not excluded” that in the future the ‘Hawkeye’ will make automatic decisions in these cases, something that already happens regularly in tennis, which no longer uses line judges in its big tournaments of the ATP and WTA Tour.
