Football’s Coming Home? With the arrival of the Three Lions In the European Championship final, the fulfillment of the title dream is now within reach. The British press is electrified.
While football augurs around the globe are still brooding over whether that is, the history books are already being rewritten in Great Britain. We’re talking about “King Kane” and his “historical boys” who “FINALLY” made it and gave the football nation “probably the best feeling in the world”.
Yes, the entry of the English national team into the European Championship final electrifies the British press. The Three Lions contest a top-class final for the first time in 55 years. And the sheer joy of the tangible title opportunity is duly taken care of on the title pages in appropriately large letters.
England moves into the European Championship final – the media coverage
“FINALLY,” screams the headline of the “Mirror” from the newspaper display. Team captain Harry Kane and “his heroes” have beaten the Danes – “after 55 years of pain”.
They are also in a great mood “Daily Mail” and the “Daily Express”who want to honor the finals with ambiguous puns. “England’s time has come”, exclaims the “Daily Express”, and also means: “FINALLY”, in the original English “FINALLY “, with a little play on words.
The “Daily Mail” on the other hand asks its readers, following the team captain: “Kane you believe it?”, Can you believe it (“Can you believe it”)?
Im Sports section of the “Daily Mail” the team captain – and shooter of the penalty kick – is even crowned “King Kane”, i.e. King Kane.
Other newspapers apparently dream of reaching the finals: “Is that the greatest dream of all time?” “Daily Star”.
The “Guardian” on the other hand is certain: “England dreams”.
The front page of the “Daily Telegraph”. Even if the well-hidden headline is no more reserved: “The historical guys”.
For the “Sun” have the Three Lions, one of the national team’s many nicknames, “roared” into the final. For the tabloid “Probably the best feeling in the world”.
In view of the cheering headlines, one can look forward to the newspaper editions next Monday – the day after the European Championship final between England and Italy (Sunday, July 11th, from 9 p.m. on ZDF), where either a dream comes true or continues to dream.
